  some time back i questioned about jw making money from doing relief work for disasters.

  i found this story on reddit and also noted some of the replies.

  it makes me wonder how many would have left their own jobs and paid their way, giving free labor and some supplying free materials if they had know what was going on behind the scenes.

  with what is arguably the biggest change to jw life in recent decades (the scrapping of publishers counting hours) what does this lead to?.

  in my mind these are the results;.

  1) a massive decrease in 'preaching hours'.

  The meeting for service is a detracting. It has to be individual groups so you are stuck with the same few. The old book study was actually the foundation with it's lesser formality and snacks. That is contradictory in a way.

  The hipster beards??? Most brothers are so developmentally suppressed they grow stubble, neck beards, or an unflattering cut. Don't forget the old guard who quietly still hate (dirty in their minds) beards but can't say so

  I had an old High School friend who is PIMO call me a couple of Sundays ago. He told me was enjoying a cocktail on the deck and throwing a ball for the dog..... while logged in (dark) on Zoom..."Attending" the meeting.....lol

  The temple watchtower last Sunday almost required some thinking, but the first 15 minutes was pure off subject fluff.

  Start by forgoing reading paragraphs, and streamline the study

  The only amnesty is for elders who engage in CSA.

  Big problem; df can be for actual dangerous behavior, blatant immorality, having a beer at 20, not being the in crowd.

  There is no one year scripture, never missing a meeting is impossible for even the elders

  Hotels for convention

  a department in bethel wants to try to make money from regional conventions by asking local hotels if they will give a special rate and a coupon code to give to jws.. .

  they should just keep it simple and not be greedy for dishonest gain.. .

  this year some convention sites the hotels said no thank you i think the jws are going to book with us anyway.

  You can get the same or better discounts by asking. AARP, AAA, NRA, senior, ex military.......

  We once had a witness run hotel, the rooms lacked the mini fridge, no breakfast.

  I once asked for the old codger rate and got 25%

  In the denser populated area we live in the convention was 70 miles, heavy traffic so some wanted to avoid the 80 minute drive; the hotels were 30 to 40 miles from the venue.

  folks: i don't mean to be a "forum grammar policeman", but there is something that i've noticed a few times.

  i've noticed that a few---not all---but some, members of the forum who use the abbreviation "ect" when they want to use the abbreviation of "etc.

  " for your education today, the term "etc" is the abbreviation for the latin term "et cetera.

  I see poor grammar, misspellings on TV all the time, not to mention sloppy English, and locally a few cannot pronounce Mexican places abd names when they should
